HRYCCA & HRYCCAA
The mission of the HRYCCAA organization has remained the same since its founding; to support all protocol activities of HRYC and to ensure that the customs, traditions, and protocols of the Club are carried forward in perpetuity.
History
The HRYCC Associates is a descendant of the International Order of the Blue Gavel Auxiliary (IOBGA) which also had members in three Countries outside of the U.S. in the late 19802. The HRYC IOBGA was founded in 1987 and chartered in 2007. Pat Cleland was the first President of the group and she went on to become the President of the International Order of the Blue Gavel Auxiliary. Members of the Smyrna Beach Yacht Club met with them at HRYC as they had not yet formed a Chapter in their Club. The later formed their own organization in their Club in 2000.
Membership in their Chapter then was limited to the wives of the HRYC Chapter of the Order of the Blue Gavel. Only Past Commodores wives were eligible to be members. In 2003 member Martha Halling became the first woman Commodore in the history of HRYC and in 2015 member Margaret Yaeger became the second woman HRYC Commodore. 2006-2007 President of our IOBGA Louise Redner was elected to become the 2008 Florida State IOBGA Secretary.
In 2009, the HRYC Chapter of IOBG dropped out of Blue Gavel and joined the Florida Commodores Association and as a consequence, our IOBGA became the Halifax River Commodores Association Associates. They organized in 2012 and Audrey Ottenstein became the first President of this newly named group. Membership criteria was changed to include wives/significant others of not only Past Commodores, but those of the current Commodore, the Vice Commodore and the Rear Commodore. Later the Fleet Captain’s wife or significant other was included in the membership ranks.
In 2019, the Halifax River Chapter of the Florida Commodores Association dropped out of the State FCA and the group became what they are presently, the Halifax River Yacht Club Commodores Association Associates. The first President of this group was Kelly Wagner.
